On 7th July 1960 my beautiful Mum, Gladeyes, gave birth to her first born, a healthy baby girl, at the Royal United Hospital, in the city of Bath, Somerset.
Mum, unfortunately suffered from severe morning sickness throughout her pregnancy and was hospitalised on more than one occasion. Despite being offered medication to ease her ordeal, Mum steadfastly refused and instead chose to rely upon her motherly instincts to see her first born safely delivered into the world. Her strength, determination and trust in God was all she needed.
In later life, when discussing my birth, Mum told me that the first word she ever said to me, was hello. She said that she looked deep into my newborn eyes and knew a simple hello was all that was needed.
Today, I celebrate my birthday, a day on which my beautiful Mum would have marvelled in the fact that her No 1 Bath baby was now 60.
My ‘No 1 Bath baby’ name arrived when dementia came to live with Mum. It was her way of remembering. Mum’s eyes used to search deep into mine, then she’d smile and say hello. Unlike the decision she made many years ago, Mum didn’t have a choice in refusing the dementia. The dementia took so much away from her, but what it couldn’t find was the steadfast strength, determination and trust in God which she held within her heart.
God bless you always Mum xx ❤️xx and thank you for the most precious gift of all, my life xx ❤️ xx
